“Intersecting Communities”

Hey all!
We would like to thank you all for coming out yesterday! It was an amazing day and a beautiful event. It was amazing seeing all the member orgs out there tabling. I couldn’t help but smile the whole entire day! This is what a COALITION could accomplish. We all got together and put on a FIRST EVER event. We brought awareness to the community and was able to support the local business along the way!
True, May is the nationally celebrated Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM), but remember we shouldn’t condense our experiences to being celebrated just one month during the year, we should be celebrating every day of the year!
With that said, THANK YOU!

Welcome everyone! To everyone who knew our old website at apac.berkeley.edu, never fear, this one is NEW and IMPROVED. We are still working diligently like little busy beavers on this, but feel free to take a look around and let us know what you think and of course, let us know about any bugs there might be. Oh, and if you would like to help contribute to the APAC blog, please do email us at ucbapac@gmail.com. Thank you!

Not an Asian Ghetto: More Than Just Take-Out
Cultural and Food Festival
April 26th, 2008, Noon to 3pm
Telegraph Ave - Between Durant and Channing
To kick off UC Berkeley’s celebration of the nationally recognized Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the Asian Pacific American Coalition (APAC) in conjunction with the Telegraph Berkeley Improvement District is sponsoring a Culture and Food Festival! Come out to Telegraph to see all your local businesses and community organizations.
Our theme this year is “Not an Asian Ghetto: More Than Just Take-Out.” We are dedicating this theme to not just the wonderful local Durant Food Court, but to all APA communities, combating the negative aggregation of cultures into a single “Asian” monolith and the stereotypical portrayal of ethnic enclaves as traditional “ghettos.”
On this afternoon, we will be having booths staffed by local Telegraph businesses serving out food as well as tables staffed by APA organizations at UC Berkeley and Bay Area community organizations. We will be providing live performances and music for entertainment, as well as announcing exciting upcoming events for the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. This event is ADP accessible and open to the general public.
Things to see:
Samples from Thai House will be provided!
Special coupons from local food businesses and restaurants for this day only!

Opinion piece from the Campus Press of the University of Colorado. If this is “satire,” then is it acceptable?
And when he looked into my eyes, it wasn’t just irritation and disgust that I saw-it was hate. Pure hate.
I’m such a fool for not realizing it sooner. I can’t tell you how many times the Asians have treated me like a retarded weasel and I’ve forgiven them. But now I know that Asians are not just “a product of their environment,” and their rudeness is not a “cultural misunderstanding.”They hate us all.
And I say it’s time we started hating them back. That’s right-no more “tolerance.” No more “cultural sensitivity.” No more “Mr. Pretend-I’m-Not-Racist.”
It’s time for war.
